Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies; it is a fraternity of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. The
members are taught moral precepts by series of ritual dramas which follow ancient forms and use stonemasons' customs and tools as allegorical guides.
Freemasonary is not
a secret society; the only secrets held are those concerning its traditional modes of recognition. Freemasons are free to acknowledge their membership and will
do so in response to enquiries for respectable reasons. Its constitutions and rules are available to the public. Like many other societies, its internal affairs are private to members.
Although all Freemasons are required to profess and continue a belief in a Supreme Being, and their ceremonies include prayers, Freemasonry is not in any way a substitute for religion.
Discussion of religion and politics is not permitted at Lodge meetings.
