Wilmette Park Lodge No. 931

This year’s Community Builders Award was presented to Brother Jason Bobor, who has done a lot for the Village of Wilmette and by doing so has made our Lodge even more visible within the community. Which can be correlated to the ten new Entered Apprentices who have joined since fall 2013.

Brother Junior Warden gave yet an interesting presentation on May 1st, the topic this time was:
Cardinal Virtues & Tenets.

Besides giving presentations Brother Junior Warden also makes sure we are being fed very well, he donated great organic beef which Brother Senior Deacon turned into a very tasty Chili meal complete with cornbread.

Saturday May 3rd was Masonically very rewarding, the morning started with a visit to the Annual Meeting Masonic Family Health Foundation where the cornerstone celebration ceremony took place for the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s new center for advance care.
Followed in the evening by a great NEDGMA Masters Dinner.

May 17th was another Temple improvement day, the Wilmette Brethren painted, cleaned and did several other chores under the supervision of the live in custodian.

Brotherly love was also shown at our firs paintball event on May 24th, the participation of several Brothers from Lodges in the area, e.g Barrington Lodge 522 & other friends made this event even more special.

The Officers & Brethren of Wilmette Park Lodge No.931 congratulate the newly elected and appointed Officers of Wilmette Chapter No.253, Royal Arch Masons, and wish them a great Capitular year !

Candidate Enhancement – Wilmette Park Style

The second Candidate Education Session took place on Thursday evening, May 15th
Intender Program Coordinator Edward Rund, P.M. continued where he ended in April and led our numerous Entered Apprentices and their Intenders in a lively presentation and discussion considering “What is Freemasonry all about?” and “What do I need to know before going on to my Second Degree?” “What are some Masonic etiquettes?” Part of the session was practicing the First Degree Catechism. On the same evening the DDGM of the 3rdNE District helped the Officers of Wilmette Park Lodge to improve their Second Degree ritual.

Some of our upcoming events:

Saturday June 7 Second Degree multiple candidates, for confirmation of this event please check with WM, Secretary, website or Facebook.

On July 3rd we will have a very short Stated Meeting, friends and family are invited to join us for a BBQ around 6:30 pm. Around 9 pm we will head West a couple of blocks and watch the Wilmette Independence Day Fireworks.

From the South:
A Program to Reaffirm Masonic Values

If I was hired as a business consultant to help reverse the decline of Masonry here would be my program:

• Clearly define the core task of Masonry. The “Making Good Men Better” is too vague and non-specific. An example of a specific core task would be “Use the accumulated Wisdom of Humanity to improve a man’s cognitive process so that he can be of better service to his community”. There could be others
• Establish a value for achieving this task and monetize this value. The current dues structure does not support Masonic operations.
• Consolidate operation by reducing the Number of Lodges and Temples
• Raise Dues to support the consolidated operations. The dues would be based upon the monetized value of implemented the core task.
• Implement consistent and enforced standards for degree progression. Currently becoming the value of being a Master Mason is quite confused by the lack of enforced standards for advancement. Master Mason needs to be an accomplishment that requires effort.
• Clearly explain the value of Masonry to a prospective candidate and explain the amount of work necessary to receive this value. Require commitment to this level of effort
• Establish scholarship funds to help those who cannot afford the increased dues. Access to the funds should be based upon demonstrated commitment to Masonry

The enforcement of standards will create a group of more cognitively efficient Masons. This will result in better decision making and a reestablishment of our reputation of advance thinkers. Masonry needs to reestablish its reputation of being a prestigious organization in which the prestige is determined by the quality of our thoughts and actions.
