From the East
Greetings Brethren,
This is the first trestleboard I’ve put out for my second year in the East and I want to thank you for electing me to this position once again. I will do my best to grow this lodge in many ways. First and foremost I want to make this year a fun year for you but also to increase our participation in social responsibility.
I hope that the holidays were happy and safe for all of you. We all need to count our blessings and thank the Grand Architect of the Universe for helping us through these troubled times. With the coming of the New Year, we need to think about how we can improve ourselves and the community around us. Change is good. It is easy to be complacent and comfortable in our daily routines. But out lodge cannot survive without growth and growth means changing our unhealthy habits.
If you are within your cable tow, I’d like to stress the importance of your participation in our lodge meetings. Let me tell you that if you haven’t attended a meeting in a while, you will be welcomed back with great kindness and love. I realize some of you feel that you don’t know anyone at lodge anymore. Let me assure you, you will always have someone to talk to. You will not sit alone on the sidelines. We will not embarrass you if you forget some of the ritual or passwords. We have wonderful dinners before the meeting. The business part of the meeting is kept short to enhance the presentation of the evening. Make a change in your life and come back to lodge. You won’t regret it! You’ll have fun, I guarantee it!
We have a presentation every meeting. Last meeting, our Senior Warden, Bro. Bob Blackwell gave a very interesting presentation on the Masonic tenants and how they are regarded by today’s Mason and some ideas on what the future holds.
Some of the suggestions for the presentations have been to have a Hobby Night. This has been a lot of fun before in the Royal Arch Chapter meetings. Let me explain how it works. Everyone does a short talk on what their hobby is. You can even bring in a couple of examples of your hobby to show the Brethren! It’s a lot of fun and we all get to know each other a little better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to congratulate the 2 brothers who have been raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason this month!
These young men breathe some fresh air into our lodge and have some pretty good ideas.
We also have a newly made Fellowcraft this month, so congratulations to him as well.
As you can see, we’ve been at labor this month and we are growing!
For the February Meeting (Feb. 7th):
Dinner starts at 6:30pm sharp. Meeting at 7:30pm. Dessert will follow the meeting.
The speakers will be Bro. Emmett Goff. He will give a presentation on one of his travels to Australia, Antarctica, Germany, etc. This brother has been around!!
Check the upcoming events on the next page. Do you want to attend a Lodge meeting or function but can’t drive? Give me a call, we’ll gladly pick you up and bring you home. Our calendar for 2008 is an effort to respond to your Masonic needs. We are always interested in your ideas and opinions, and we need your participation now, more than ever.
From the Secretary’s Desk
Greetings Brethren, I hope each of you and yours had as nice a Holiday as my family and I did. Thanks to the growing interest in Freemasonry spawned by such films as the DaVinci Code and National Treasure, the Lodge has been fairly busy with Degree work over the past months. And it is a joy to see the new members, all of whom are in their 20s and 30s and anxious to be involved and contribute.
As you know with the coming of the new year, it is again time to pay your dues. If you haven’t already done so, as soon as you finish reading this Trestleboard, take your checkbook and pen in hand and get this responsibility out of the way. It will save your Secretary time and the Lodge postage expense. All the best to you in 2008; it’s going to be a fantastic year.
Seeking More Light…
Fact or fiction?
Frederick the Great, a Mason without any doubt, while in a jewelry shop in Potsdam, Germany, observed a middle-aged woman exhibiting an article of silver having certain Masonic symbols, possibly a Past Master's jewel. She was trying to borrow money on it. She said she had come to this particular shop to avoid the usurers and because the owner of the shop was a Mason. The jeweler told her that he was not in the pawnbroking business and couldn't make the loan.
The King, not disclosing to the woman who he was, asked her many questions concerning the jewel, whose it was, how she had possession of it, etc. He offered to buy the jewel and kept raising the price. When he decided to make her the loan, he discovered he had no money in his pocket. He then disclosed to the surprised woman that he was the King.
Fredrick shook his staff at the jeweler and told him that he was not fit to be a Mason and threatened to file charges against him. The following morning the woman went to see Fredrick at the palace and he instructed her to return whenever she was in need of help.
