Greetings my Bretheren all,
I would like to share an experience I had when Officially visiting
a Masonic Lodge in District 39-A as District Deputy Master.
The lodge officers had invited their four new entered apprentices
to attend the lodge business meeting and witness the official
visit of a Grand Lodge Officer. Before the meeting, while in the
dinning room breaking bread, a young man in his early twenties
was sitting across from me and in conversation he stated that he
was a nobody. When I inquired about his comment, he answered,
"Because I am only an E.A. Mason. I proceeded to correct his
statement by telling him that E.A. Masons are the foundation upon
which Master Masons are built and as such, E.A. Masons are
important and necessary members of a lodge.
I wonder, how many Entered Apprentice Masons we have lost
due to fact that we, Master Masons make them feel inadequate?
It is up to you and me to recruit younger men into our
fraternity and enhance and secure our Masonic Future. More importantly,
to treat these E.A.s as masonic family extending them
every courtesy and opportunity to join in our lodge functions.
Here is my challenge to all my Bretheren wherever dispursed:
Carry on your person 3 blank Petitions, When you meet with a
good man that wants to become a better man, hand him the petition
and follow-up like a good sales person, Just imagine if every
The worshipful master of Valley-Hi Lodge observed past masters
night at the lodge during a called meeting to recognize and honor
those brothers who have previously led the progress of the lodge over
the years.
The worshipful master opened the program by stating that “we
were assembled to honor a very special group of our brethren whom
we affection ally refer to as Past Masters.” He went on to tell each of
the past masters present “how they had faithfully and diligently
served the lodge as master and faced the trials, tribulations, and personal
sacrifices but weathered each of them in turn.” He noted how
they “had never let the lodge down and that their concern as to its ongoing
well being is part of their character, their life and their very
soul.”
The worshipful master then told the past masters that not all lodges
enjoy the benefit of the devotion to the lodge by past masters as does
Valley-Hi Lodge. He said that in many lodges the past masters seem
to routinely vanish. In fact in many lodges it is customary for the
Past Master to get his apron and disappear. It makes you wonder why
they no longer take an interest in the Lodge. He asks the question
“Were they there to simply get their past master apron and no longer
care about the lodge?” He thanked the past master of Valley-Hi
Lodge for their continued dedication and support and encouraged
them to continue in their blue lodge.
The worshipful master then presented each past master in attendance
a certificate and a coin. He noted that on behalf of the lodge he
wanted to recognize each of the past masters for attaining the status of
past master and for the continued attendance and assistance they have
provided the lodge. He said we have prepared a very special certificate
for each of our beloved Past Masters in recognition of their
achievements,

This is the first issue of the Valley-Hi Quarterly. As the title implies we plan to prepare one each quarter (thus the name) in which we will recap some of the happenings at the lodge during that quarter and some of the scheduled programs upcoming. We realize that many of you are unable to be at lodge when the doors open and there are many justified reasons for it. You live out of the lodge area, illness, work, and other commitments and for various other reasons. This doesn't mean that you are not interested in the happenings at the lodge. Hopefully, the Valley-Hi Quarterly will let you know what happened during the quarter. As you recall we tried publishing the Cornerstone again but just as before there was a lack of contributions of viable material to make it interesting and informative. This format is more simple and too the point. It will not require the singular effort to produce every three months and hopefully will be a welcome "fill-in" for the brethren. Be sure to let us know what you think of the Valley-Hi Quarterly. Give us your comments and/or suggestions on the lodge email valleyhilodge@hotmail.com. We will try to make it something you find interesting and informative. Let us hear from you. |
January 26, 2008 was the date. Valley-Hi Lodge’s Dimmitt
Hall was the place. Fun, good company and SUPER! Food was
the purpose. Yes members and guests assembled at the lodge for the annual lodge observance. This is usually done with great food, entertainment and a guest speaker. This year was no different. Brother Tim, our Senior Steward, was again in charge of the meal which included an entree of rotisserie chicken with all the usual trimmings. Historically Brother Tim has done an outstanding job in preparing the meal and but this year it was super. We are so fortunate to have such a talented “chef”. Members of the Helotes Chapter of Jobs Daughters took care of the serving chores and they did their usual outstanding job of helping. We thank them for their help and assistance. We were entertained by Silks and his entertaining magic during the evening. Brother John “Silks” Viner is a life member of the Alzafar Menmuf Clown Unit and is currently senior warden of Randolph Masonic Lodge. Routinely he participates in Shrine parades, circus, and performs at special events including hospitals and birthday parties. The guests were so engrossed in his performance they almost forgot their dessert. Featured as the evening’s guest speaker was Mr. Gary Price currently a certified financial planner with the Air Force Credit Union. He previously a position with MetLife Insurance Company, He has been in financial services for more than 11 years. He holds a master of science in business administration and has earned his securities licenses in five series; He is a charted financial consultant.
