For those attending the Midwest Shrine Clown Association in Sioux Falls Thursday, August 15th through Saturday, August 17th:
Thursday night parade(s). Six Temples will be parading in Hartford, SD and 6 will parade in Brandon, SD. Both towns are about 5 miles outside Sioux Falls. I'll know (be told by the higher powers that made that choice to begin with) in a couple of days which Temples will be in each town.
Friday morning the MAKEUP competition will be held in the Sioux Falls Convention Center to appease the above mentioned higher powers at 8:00 a.m. SHARP! Please be ready. We'll be using two sets of judges so we can run two makeup categories at once to speed the process. Then the SKITS/PARADABILITY/BALLOONS/ETC. competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Empire Mall. It literally has more daily visitors than Mt. Rushmore. My regular job is a talk show host at one of the local radio stations, so I'm really pumping up this event to have a BIG crowd! The 11:00 a.m. start time is to allow for transportion from the convention center (60 passenger bus provided) as well as time to collect your wits before performing. ISCA competition rules will be in place. Besides the usual makeup categories and skits, paradability, and balloons...I'm going to have a couple of extra awards. One will be a Sweepstakes award that will be presented to the clown that accumulates the most combined points--i.e.--total points for makeup, one man skit, paradability, balloons, etc. We're also going to have an Entertainers award where the judges will be the audience. So plan on having an extra five minute skit or gag you'd like to do that perhaps doesn't fit into the usual structured competition form. And there will also be a People's Choice award, so you'll want to be entertaining off stage as well as on stage.
Our awards banquet will be held in downtown Sioux Falls at 300 Main Street Blues at 3:30 p.m. It will be a cash bar, but elegant hor d ouvres will be provided. This will be a Happy Hour type of event. This way the Shrine-O-Rama meal you paid for in registration won't be duplicated by paying for an awards banquet meal. Additionally you won't have to hurry up the makeup competition
Saturday morning by trying to get ready in between an awards breakfast and a parade. The Saturday parade will have all Temples parading in Sioux Falls.
Specific times for parades will be headed your way in a couple of days.
