March 2004

Dear Brother,

Eagle Lodge’s March 27 spaghetti dinner, a fund-raiser for building repairs, was a great success. Thanks to a lot of hard work by many brothers, and the fact that much of the food was donated, we raised $875. The fellowship was worth even more. Thanks to all of the brothers who pitched in and those who came for dinner. Ken Johnson deserves a special thank-you for showing up early to cut the grass, then staying all day to cook the dinner. WB Lloyd Wentler, Gregg Phillips and Raymond Stansbury rounded out the core kitchen crew.

Coming up next is the Eagle Lodge invitational putt putt tournament on Saturday, April 17 at I-85 Golf and Baseball, 2515 Cherry Lane in Haw River (beside I-85 at Trollingwood Road). This will be the event of the year, and we are inviting brothers from area lodges to join the fun. Come out and bring a friend – this is a great way to let a coworker or neighbor see our fellowship in action. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and tee-offs start at 8. The fee for each two-man team is $50. The top three teams win cash prizes, which will be awarded at noon. SW Scott Tutor is tournament director.

These fund-raisers, and our food sales at Hillsborough’s Last Friday celebrations, support much-needed building repairs. Soon we will be able to offer donors the opportunity to make tax-deductible contributions. Repairs to the floor downstairs are urgently needed. We hope to have enough funds in hand to start work on this in the fall.

We will not have a planning meeting and breakfast April 3 – a school of instruction is scheduled that day at Knap of Reeds Lodge.

The April 13 stated communication is past masters night. Dinner, speaker …..

Other dates of interest are the first Last Friday celebration of 2004 on April 30, and our spring blood drive on May 22.

We also have a proposal from the Southern Historical Collection at UNC to help us preserve our old documents – including handwritten petitions, minutes and receipts from the 1700s – by housing them in the university’s library. We will review and discuss this at an upcoming meeting.

As always, meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. Next stated communications: April 13 and 27. We want to see you. If you need a ride to the lodge, please call any of us.
