Eagle Lodge # 19 AF&AM
Hillsborough,
North Carolina
April 2003
Dear Brother,
Past Masters Night on April 8 was a special occasion! After a delicious steak dinner, we presented “Eagle Lodge Past Master” caps to the 12 PMs in attendance. A special cap emblazoned “Master Coach” was presented to WB Jake Jacobs, who has coached 61 Master Masons, including all of this year’s line officers and a good number of past masters. The lodge was opened with PMs in all of the chairs. Guest speaker Don Sizemore, director of admissions at the Masonic Home for Children, talked about the home, its plans for the future and funny experiences from his 30+ years there. Afterward, the Rainbow Girls served dessert. It was a great evening, with good conversation, laughter and fellowship. WB Red Brown, master in 1960, was the earliest PM attending. We will have photos from the evening on our website soon.
On April 1 we were honored to raise Thomas Gregg Phillips. Gregg’s dad, Pat, came up from Alabama to take part. Please join us in welcoming Gregg to the craft.
Make sure to drop by the lodge for music and good food
between 6 and 9 p.m. Friday, April 25, the first of this year’s Last
Friday celebrations in downtown Hillsborough. Food sales will support lodge
renovations. Join us!
On Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. Barbara Church will give a public lecture in our lodge on the architect William Nichols. Nichols designed Eagle Lodge and other significant structures in the area as well as NC’s capitol building. Her lecture and slide show focus on the lodge’s importance in Hillsborough’s architectural history. Many old images of the lodge will be featured.
On Saturday, May 31 we will host the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Give a pint and save a life.
The secretary will soon mail second late notices to all brothers owing 2003 dues, which were due Dec. 31. Dues are necessary to keep the lodge running and are needed in a timely basis. If you haven't paid your 2003 dues yet, please do so.
And, a reminder of our recent requests for donations to the
Masonic and Eastern Star Home (MESH): a donation of $15 is greatly appreciated.
Please send your check, payable to Eagle Lodge, to us at P.O. Box 1095,
Hillsborough, N.C., 27278. Indicate on the check that you are contributing to
MESH. Your gift makes a difference.
Next stated communications: April 22, May 13, May 27. Meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. We want to see you. If you need a ride to the Lodge, please call any of us.
