PURPOSE:
1. TO PROMOTE AND CEMENT THE BROTHERLY LOVE AND FELLOWSHIP AMONG THE BRETHREN OF FREEMASONRY ESPECIALLY OF THE 34TH MASONIC DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA.
2. TO REVITALIZE AND RENEW THE INTEREST, DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, ENTHUSIASM AND
LOVE FOR FREEMASONRY BY THE BRETHREN, WHITHERSOEVER DISPERSED.
3. TO INCREASE ATTENDANCE OF LODGES' STATED AND EMERGENT COMMUNICATIONS BY
VISITS OF BRETHREN OF OTHER LODGES COMPRISING 34TH MASONIC DISTRICT OF NORTH
CAROLINA.
4. TO ENCOURAGE BRETHREN TO VISIT OTHER LODGES IN THE DISTRICT FOR MASONIC
FELLOWSHIPS, EDUCATION, AND RENDERING ASSISTANCE IN LODGE'S RITUALISTIC
FUNCTIONS.
5. TO SHARE COMMON KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES OF MASONIC HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
AND OTHER SORTS OF MASONIC INTERESTS.
6. TO ESTABLISH A RESERVOIR OF FRIENDSHIP AND BROTHERLY LOVE.
RULES:
1. THE TRAVELING GAVEL
IS SPONSORED BY THE 34TH MASONIC DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA.
2. THE FIRST HOST
LODGE OF THE TRAVELING GAVEL WILL BE DETERMINED BY SIMPLE MAJORITY OF MEMBERS OF
A LODGE PRESENT DURING THE DISTRICT MEETING IN MARCH 2013.
3. THE HOST LODGE WILL DISPLAY THE TRAVELING GAVEL IN THE LODGE
ROOM AND THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER MAY USE THE GAVEL IF HE SO DESIRES.
4. THE "CAPTURE" OF THE GAVEL CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED ONLY WHEN AT LEAST 4
MEMBERS OF A VISITING LODGE ARE PRESENT DURING A STATED OR EMERGENT
COMMUNICATION OF THE HOST LODGE. THE CAPTURING LODGE MUST HAVE AT
LEAST 4 MEMBERS PRESENT AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF A COMMUNICATION. IN CASE OF
A TIE, THE VISITING LODGE WITH THE MOST MEMBERS PRESENT WILL WIN. IN THE EVENT
OF A TIE IN NUMBERS THE LODGE TRAVELLING THE GREATEST DISTANCE WILL WIN.
5. DUAL MEMBERS OF DIFFERENT VISITING LODGES SHOULD DECLARE WHICH LODGE THEY
SHOULD BE COUNTED ON.
6. LODGES OUTSIDE OF THE 34TH MASONIC DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA ARE NOT
ELIGIBLE TO CAPTURE THE GAVEL.
7. PRESENTATION OF THE TRAVELING GAVEL BY THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER OF THE HOST
LODGE TO THE VISITING LODGE WILL BE DONE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE CLOSING THE LODGE.
8. THE CAPTURING LODGE
IS RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE THE GAVEL’S WHEREABOUTS KNOWN AS SOON AS IS PRACTICAL BY
AT LEAST, ALERTING THE WEBMASTER OF THE DISTRICT WEBSITE OF THE LOCATION CHANGE
AND ANY OTHER MEANS AVAILABLE TO DISSEMINATE THE INFORMATION TO THE LODGES
WITHIN THE DISTRICT.
9. THE TRAVELLING GAVEL PROGRAM IS AT ALL TIMES TO BE FUN.
10. THE GAVEL CONTINUES TO TRAVEL ONWARD AND MUST NOT STOP.
