National RiteCare Conference
The National RiteCare Conference held in St. Louis September 13,14
2002 was a great success. Walker Scottish Rite Clinic deserves accolades
for hosting the fourth National Converence. Clinicians, Scottish
Rite members, S.G.I.G.'s and Deputies from 34 states, including
Puerto Rico and Japan attended.
RiteCare Board Changes
Information gathered at the conference caused our Valley Board (RiteCare)
to re-evaluate. We have to take a different view of where we are
and where we need to be. Therefore, there will be some major changes
in the structure of our board and the way we do business.
Mizzou - R.G. Combs Children's Communications Center
At this time we are working with the staff of the University of
Missouri in establishing a new legal contract. Another change will
be that of switching from a scholarship funding agreement to a program
(Speech and Hearing Center) funding using fundraisers and other
financial resources. Starting in January 2002, we will be forming
the R.G. Combs Advisory Board of Directors. The University of Missouri
faculty has requested to set on this board. The board wil need community
leaders and Scottish Rite members to make this a successful program.
Brethren of the Valley of Columbia, the success or failure of this
program is in your hands. Make it happen! Be a leader!
Fundraising
The fundraisers planned for 2003 are:
- Spring Auction
- Golf Tournament
- &Give Me Five& Challenge Club
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25,000
Question?
What do the number 118 and 164 have in common?
Answer:
R.G. Combs Children's Communication Center, Valley of Columbia was
the 118th Scottish Rite center recognized by the Supreme
Council of the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A.
On September 13, 2002, at the National RiteCare Conference in St.
Louis, Mo., the Supreme Council awarded a $20,000 grant to the 164th
clinic. This clinic, Truman University RiteCare Literacy Lab located
in Kirksville, MO, is expected to open September 2003. Our Columbia
Valley Board of Directors are being asked to conribute the remaining
$5,000 to complete the $25,000 startup grant.
This $25,000 represents 23% of the total startup cost. Info packets
are available. This new literacy lab falls under the Valley of Columbia's
RiteCare Program. However, it is expected to be a stand alone program.
The Truman University faculty and staff are excited about this new
addition to their very successful and professional Speech and Hearing
Department. Three of them have asked to be members of the Kirksville
area RiteCare advisory board. We need members on this board from
the community and also from our North Central Scottish Rite Club
members. This advisory board will be responsible for fundraising
for the RiteCare Literacy Lab. Among the fundraisers will be:
- Auction in Kirksville
- Golf Tournament
- &Give Me Five& Challenge Club
Brethren, be involved, make this RiteCare program a success.
At this time, we are working with Truman University on the legal
agreement and the necessary planning.
So Mote It Be.
