POETRY
THE PERSON IN THE GLASS
When you get what you want in your
struggle for self,
And the world makes us King for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that person has to say.
For it isn't your father, mother,
husband, or wife,
Whose judgment upon you must pass:
The person whose verdict counts most in your life,
Is the one staring back from the glass.
He is the person to please, never
mind the rest,
For he is with you right up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous difficult test,
If the person in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down
the pathway
Of years and get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears,
If you've cheated the person in the Glass.
Dale Wimbrow, 1895-1954
FATHER'S DAY
What do you say to someone
who has been one of
the most essentila parts of you world;
someone who took you by the hand
when you were littl
and helped to show the way?
What do you say to someone
who stood by to help you grow,
providing love, strength, and support
so you could become the person
you are today?
What can you say to let him know
the he's the best there is,
and that you hope you've inherited
some of his wisdom and his strength?
What words would you say
if you ever got the chance?
Maybe you just say
"I love you Dad..."
And hope he understands.
Carey Martin
HOPE
Behind the cloud the starlight lurks,
Through showers the sunbeam falls;
For God, who loveth all His works'
has left his hoe with all!
Whittier
Hiram in the brow of hill, eyes
gone dry with weeping,
Sprig of green Acacia and life beyond the grave;
Lion's Paw and Master's Word teach death is but sleeping,
Soul in immortality, as water in a wave.
Carl H. Claudy
Each cloud-capped mountain at a
holy alter;
An organ breathes on every Grove;
And the full heart's a Psalter,
Rich in deep hymns of gratitude and love.
Thomas Hood
