Freemasonry is an institution with a rich and deep past.  The rituals and ceremonies of the Order have been handed down through a session of ages, and these rituals are meant to be conferred in the most referred and solemn circumstance.  After a stated meeting of Bethpage Lodge, several brethren sat talking about the lack of solemnity witnessed in the conferral of Masonic ritual.  This singular conversation sparked an idea that took more than two years to come to fruition.  The brethren began to talk about how we, as a small country lodge, could make the presentation of Masonic Tradition more sacred and solemn.  The brethren involved in the planning came up with a list of several things that needed to be addressed.  They included the quality of ritualists, the dress of the cast, the lighting of the lodge, and elegance and simplicity of the preparation.  All of these issues have been addressed in our preparation for a Candlelight Degree.  The lodge room is darkened with only the three lesser lights and candles on the stations of the Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, and Junior Warden.  The cast wears authentic ritual robes from the late 19th and early 20th century.  The lodge is opened with Masonic music and silence is stressed to all those visiting the lodge.  It is hoped that this brief description of a Candlelight Degree will make you more interested in the experience.  If you would like to visit Bethpage Lodge during one of our Candlelight Degrees, please feel free to e-mail the Worshipful Master.  If you are interested in joining Freemasonry and experience a Candlelight Degree by experience, CLICK HERE for a petition.
