The Bridge Builder

I recently read a poem called “The Bridge Builder” by Will Allen Dromgoole. The poem describes an old man on a journey on a long highway. When confronted by a deep and wide chasm, he was able to cross due to his experience. Once safely across to the other side, the old man built a bridge to span the chasm. A fellow pilgrim then asks the old man why he built the bridge, as he is old and will not probably pass that way again in his lifetime. The old man replied that along the road he has traveled, someone else will follow. And although the chasm was not a difficult obstacle for him, it may be for them. Therefore, he built the bridge for them. So should we endeavor to build bridges in our lives, both in masonry and in our personal life. Masonically, we need to bridge the gap between our experienced members and our new masons. We need to make the new brothers feel at home and welcome in their lodge, and encourage their active participation in the lodge activities. In our personal life, we need to bridge the gap of obstacles that sometimes crop up in our lives and those of others. Remember to do good unto all mankind. In our lives and actions, let us be bridge builders for those following us on the road of life and in Masonry.
