Washington C. Whitthorne He was a U.S. Senator and Congressman from Tennessee. He was born on April 19, 1825 near Farmington, Tennessee. Graduate of University of Tennessee in 1843; studied law and admitted to the bar in 1845. Began practice in Columbia, Tennessee. Served in both branches of the state legislature. In Civil War, he was in the Confederate service as adjutant general of Tennessee, 1861-1865. Was U.S. Congressman to 42nd-47th congresses, 1871-1883, and U.S. senator, 1886-1887. Member of Columbia Lodge No. 31, Columbia, Tennessee. He entered the Celestial Lodge on September 21, 1891.
