Charles W. Mayo He was the Governor of Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota. He was born on July 28, 1898 at Rochester, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles H. Mayo, who, with his brother, William J. Mayo, founded the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, donating $2,800,000 to it. Brother Charles received an A.B. from Princeton University in 1921; M.D. from University of Pennsylvania in 1926; M.S. in surgery at University. of Minnesota in 1931. He has been a surgeon at Mayo Clinic since 1931 and instructor in surgery, assistant professor, associate professor, and presently professor in the graduate school of University of Minnesota. He is a director of Northwest Airlines and a trustee of Carleton College. He was alternate delegate to the United Nations 8th General Assembly. He was a member of Rochester Lodge No. 21, Rochester, Minnesota, receiving degrees on August 20, September 6, and September 13, 1920. He is a Member of Halcyon Chapter No. 8, Royal Arch Masons and Home Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar, both of Rochester. He is an honorary member of the Grand Lodge of Chile and in 1958 received the Distinguished Achievement award of the Grand Lodge of New York.
