        Effective Listening

What are we taught when we go to school? We are taught how to read, how to speak, how to comprehend. We are not taught how to effectively listen! When we are introduced to the Fellowcraft degree we learn one of the tools is an attentive ear. What exactly is that?

There are several reasons as to why people have challenges listening. We will explore the difficulties with communication and what causes message misinterpretation. Discussion will also center on the biases of the listener and also the needs of the listener.

“Interpreting the message” as opposed to “hearing the words” will be discussed. Understanding the message is the most important part of communication. How we do this determines how effective a listener one is.
