The History of Unity Lodge No. 36, Part 3
Walking from the reception room straight ahead is the Tyler’s Room. The Tyler is the title given to a brother charged with guarding the outer door to the lodge room when the lodge meeting has started. His duty is to make sure that no one gains entry into the meeting without permission.
It's sad to see the condition of the old lodge. In it's day; it must have been really fine.
The outer door of the lodge room is now off its hinges and propped up against the wall next to the door jamb. Time has not been kind to the interior of this old lodge as one glance at the condition of the door will reveal.
Looking at the upper right portion of the outer lodge room door, you will note a small hole, cut into the door with a movable piece inside that swings back and forth. This used to be called a “peep-hole.”
This was used by a person stationed on the opposite side of the door when answering a knock from the outside. Straight ahead, through the door frame is what is left of the old meeting room.
