Grand Assembly 2003
It seems impossible to believe that yet another Grand Year has come and gone. We headed down to Fresno, in the heart of our Great Central Valley, for the final concert our 2003 Grandies would perform - "Rainbow: Live on Tour".
Grand Officers
2002-2003 "Whismically Wacky Walruses"
All along, we've known the starpower of our two Grandies - Cindy F.,
Grand Representative to Maryland & West Virginia, from Tracy, and Pamela K., Grand Circulation Manager, from Manteca, and after this year's
spectacular sessions, everyone else does too! They blinded us with their
celebrity down in the mosh pit, er... the opening marches, wearing the
gorgeous red, silver and white dresses. The dresses are just impossible to
describe, so we'll let you see the pictures, when we get them! We were so
thrilled to have three Maryland Rainbow Girls - their GWA, GWAA and Grand
Representative to California, present for our sessions. It was so much fun
meeting them and letting them see California Rainbow in action. Then, when
it was Cindy & Pam's turns to grab the microphone, they garnered laughs from
the audience with their unique and creative reports - they put the whimsical and
wacky into Whimsically Wacky and couldn't have made us more proud to call them
our own!
Grand Officers
2003-2004 "Legendary Llamas"
This year, Mrs. Martin, our Supreme Deputy, put a twist on Revelations,
announcing the new Grand Officers in random order, but saving Grand Worthy
Advisor for last, as always. So, we didn't know when to stand up and start
screaming, but we got started right away, when the second Grandie announced was
the new Maryland & West Virginia. Our Grandie, Cindy, got her ultimate
wish - a Grandie who lives close to us - when Erin H. from Livermore was
appointed. Livermore is just twenty minutes away, and while not in our
district, we try to visit them at Installations, OVs and Receptions on a regular
basis, and they come to ours as well. Then, we settled in to wait and see
if anyone from our district would be appointed a Grand Office. It was a
long wait before we heard our very own Ashley Y. announced as Grand Service
2004 but boy did our entire district scream loudly. We're thrilled for
Ashley and know that she is going to be the most Legendary Grand Service ever!
Grand Choir
The
"Grand Divas" made Grand Assembly just a bit more star-studded, in
their royal blue dresses. We were so proud of our own Heather S., as well
as Manteca's Grand Choir girl, Nicole M., who was also retiring as the Northern
Pot of Gold Staff Member, and Modesto's representative, Deidre J., who
affiliated to Modesto after Patterson closed last summer. They were all
enthusiastic and beautiful during the Grand Assembly Sing-A-Long before
Revelations.
Grand
Pages
We had to scream loud for our "Grand Groupie", Jolene M., from
Manteca. She was the second girl from our district in the past three years
to serve as the Personal Page to Miss Rita, our Area Grand Deputy who is the
Meals Chairperson for Grand Assembly. She was gorgeous in her purple dress
and her basket was a beautiful Mardi Gras-themed creation.
Majority
Tracy Assembly, for the second year, had another girl out on the Grand Assembly
floor receiving her Majority. Cindy F. ended her Rainbow career as
her Grand Year came to an end, though most of the district seemed to be saving
their tears for her "real" Majority Ceremony, which was performed at
our first meeting in May. We love Cindy very much and will miss her as an
active Rainbow Girl, though we know she's going to stick around, as she is now
the Assistant Pledge Mother for our growing group of future Rainbow Girls.
To sum up our 2003 Grand Assembly, here is a little anecdote from our Maryland friends. The GWA's mother had told Dara to pick the Grand Assembly that was most different from Maryland's and they would go, so she chose California and thoroughly enjoyed herself, knowing she made the right choice. We hope that they go home and tell all their Maryland Rainbow sisters to come to California Grand Assembly if they ever have a chance! Grand Assembly was everything it always is, and we're proud that our Whismically Wacky Walruses kept things unique and special.
