KENTUCKY DeMOLAYS BEGIN NEW YEAR
Kurtis L. Traft of Northern Kentucky Chapter, Covington,
is the new State Master Councilor of Kentucky DeMolay.
He was installed at the 2005 Annual Conclave held July
6-10 at the Kentucky Leadership Center near Jabez,
Kentucky. He is the first DeMolay from Northern Kentucky
Chapter to serve as State Master Councilor! The other
Elected Officers are:

Master Councilor Tim Wemes of Cherokee Chapter,
Louisville; State Senior Councilor Rick Lewis of Owen R.
Meadors Chapter, Ashland; State Junior Councilor
Jonathon Arledge of Blue Grass Chapter, Lexington; State
Treasurer Frank Houston of Northern Kentucky Chapter,
Covington; and

Ben Pifer of Cherokee Chapter, Louisville. The
newly crowned Kentucky State Sweetheart is Miss Melanie
Traft from Northern Kentucky Chapter, Covington. The
Elected Officers of the C. Frye Haley Memorial Priory
are: Illustrious Knight Commander Rick Lewis;
Squire Commander
Kevin Fautz; and Page Commander Jonathon Arledge.
The Conclave
Opening was held Wednesday evening under the leadership
of State Master Councilor Ryan W. Evans. Kentucky
DeMolay was proud to welcome its own Past State Master
Councilor Patton R. Hart in his new capacity as Grand
Junior Councilor of DeMolay International. Brothers Andy
Bachmann and Seth Lake became the two newest members of
the Order of DeMolay. The Majority Service was held on
Sunday morning for Brothers Ryan W. Evans, Patrick
Ewing, Jed Harvey, Chuck Menke, Travis Smith, and Brian
Woodring. At the Honors Ceremonies, the Legion of Honor
was conferred on Jon Marc Elbert of Cherokee Chapter, J.
B. Hitt, II, of Daniel Boone Chapter; and Dr. Robert J.
Thomas of Cave Run Chapter. This is the highest honor
conferred upon "a Senior DeMolay for outstanding
leadership in some field of endeavor or for success in
fraternal life, including adult service to DeMolay." The
Honorary Legion of Honor was conferred on Archie R.
Smallwood, Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand
Council of Kentucky, R&SM. This honor is conferred upon
"a Mason over 30 years of age who has performed unusual
and meritorious service on behalf of DeMolay, or who has
evidenced a spirit of cooperation and appreciation for
the Order of DeMolay."
The Cross of Honor, the highest honor for
an Advisor, was presented to Teri L. Coffey of the
Jurisdictional Staff. The Degree of
Chevalier, the highest honor accorded an active DeMolay
(and may be granted to a Senior DeMolay) was conferred
on Kevin Paul Fautz of Cherokee Chapter; John Michael
Smith of Northern Kentucky Chapter; and Travis Kuhio
Smith of Northern Kentucky Chapter. Named "DeMolay of
the Year" was Brother Jed Harvey of Owen R. Meadors
Chapter. Mom Sherrie R. Traft of the Jurisdictional
Staff was named "Advisor of the Year." Numerous ritual
and athletic competitions were held during the Annual
Conclave with awards being presented at Sunday morning's
Brunch. Ritual champions were: Flower Talk, Tim Wemes
(Cherokee); Orator, Patrick Foster (Cherokee); First
Preceptor, William Martz (Northern Kentucky); Second
Preceptor, Frank Houston (Northern Kentucky); Third
Preceptor, Blair Baughman (Cherokee); Fourth Preceptor,
Kevin Fautz (Cherokee); Fifth Preceptor, Matt Wemes
(Cherokee); Sixth Preceptor, Zachary Creekmore (Northern
Kentucky); and Seventh Preceptor, Patrick Foster
(Cherokee). Both the Chapter Proficiency and the DeMolay
Degree Competitions were won by teams from Cherokee
Chapter.
The DeMolay
Degree Fourth Section Competition was won by the "Wemes
Team" from Cherokee Chapter-Brothers Tim Wemes, Matt
Wemes, and Pat Wemes. Athletic winners: Tennis, Chris
Hirsbrunner (Cherokee); Basketball Free Throw, Chris
Cornett (Cherokee); Basketball Hot Shot, Chris
Hirsbrunner (Cherokee); Basketball 3 on 3, Cherokee
Chapter; Volleyball, Cherokee Chapter; Checkers, Matt
Wemes (Cherokee); and Chess, Blair Baughman (Cherokee).
The State Softball Tournament was won by a composite
team consisting of DeMolays from Northern Kentucky
Chapter and Owen R. Meadors Chapter. The All Around
Kentucky DeMolay Athletic Chapter for the year was
Cherokee Chapter. The DeMolay Academic Bowl was won by
Owen R. Meadors Chapter.
Cherokee Chapter of Louisville was named
the "Chapter of the Year" for 2004-2005.
The Grand Lodge
was represented by Brother David E. Carter, Grand
Master; Dad Patton R. Hart, Deputy Grand Master; Brother
Keith Dreier, Grand Junior Warden, and Brother and Mrs.
Virgil T. Larimore, Jr., Grand Treasurer. Scholarships
were awarded to Brothers Ryan W. Evans, Kevin Fautz,
Rick Lewis, and Ben Pifer. Appointed State Officers are:
William Martz, State Senior Deacon; Matt Wemes, State
Junior Deacon; Eric Feldpausch, State Senior Steward;
Zachary Creekmore, State Junior Steward; Kevin Fautz,
State Chaplain; Chris Hirsbrunner, State Marshal; Pat
Wemes, State Standard Bearer; and Justin Eastham, State
