The Grand Lodge Officers have twice said go ahead and schedule a training session. Both times there was not enough money to pay for the program. They said each time "have faith and it will happen". It has both times through the enormous generosity of one brother
Worshipful Brother Arthur H. Davis, a member of Golden Star Lodge Number 9, Lead, South Dakota, a Mason for more than sixty years has provided our needs. For the January 1999 session held in Watertown, South Dakota, WB Davis delivered to Most Worshipful Brother, Lowell C. Holmgren, Grand Treasurer/Secretary a check in the amount of $10,000.00, as this is the amount he had learned was needed.
A session was scheduled for October 1999 and again the question of where the money would come from. In July 1999 MWB Holmgren received a call from WB Davis who had some very good news. WB Davis was selling his coin collection the next day and wanted the proceeds to go to the Masonic Model Student Assistance Training. This collection had taken WB Davis forty years to assemble. As the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother, Delbert E. Ripley, was unable to be present to receive the check he was represented by Right Worshipful Brother Donald R. Salmon, Deputy Grand Master. This sell netted the Masonic Model Student Assistance Training $10,060.94.
Brother Davis, the Masons of South Dakota will be forever grateful to you, as will the students of South Dakota. Through your gifts you have made possible the start of what may well be the means for saving the youth of South Dakota.
