DOUBLE DISTINCTION IS TO BE CONFERRED UPON SEVEN MASONS MONDAY
RECEIVE 33d DEGREE AWAY FROM SEAT OF ORDER – FIRST TIME IN HISTORY OF FRATERNITY
THE FIRST, LAST AND ONLY OPPORTUNITY NON-MASONS WILL HAVE OF INSPECTING THE INTERIOR OF THE PALATIAL NEW SCOTTISH RITE CATHEDRAL WILL BE OFFERED THEM MONDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT, WHEN, BY SPECIAL INVITATION THOSE FORTUNATE ONES WILL BE GUESTS OF THE SHREVEPORT CONSISTORY OF THE SCOTTISH RITE AT THE DEDICATORY SERVICES BEGINNING AT 2 O’CLOCK, AT THE DISPLAY OF THE SCENERY AND ELECTRICAL EFFECTS IN THE CATHEDRAL THEATRE OR AUDITORIUM, WHERE ALL THE RITUALISTIC SERVICES OF THE FRATERNITY WILL TAKE PLACE, AT 8 O’CLOCK AND THE DANCE TO FOLLOW.
THE DEDICATION CEREMONIES, ASIDE FROM THEIR SIGNIFICANCE OF GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT, WILL BE NOTABLE FOR ANOTHER FEATURE, ONE FROM WHICH NON-MASONS ARE BARRED. IT IS THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY OF THE MASONIC FRATERNITY IN THE UNITED STATES THE THIRTY-THIRD DEGREE, THE HIGHEST OF THE ORDER, WILL BE CONFERRED UPON CANDIDATES AWAY FROM THE SEAT OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL, THIRTY-THIRD DEGREE, IN WASHINGTON, D.C. THOSE UPON WHOM THIS DOUBLE DISTINCTION WILL BE CONFERRED ARE MICHAEL BERNSTEIN, JAMES H. ROWLAND, THOMAS B. CHASE AND HARRY S. WESTON OF SHREVEPORT; CHARLES WEINBURGER AND EMERSON H. ADDINGTON OF NEW ORLEANS; CHARLES N. ADAMS OF ALEXANDRIA.
THE DEDICATORY CEREMONIES WILL BE CONDUCTED BY FOUR OF THE OFFICERS OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF MASONRY; GEORGE FLEMING MOORE OF MONTGOMERY, ALA., GRAND COMMANDER OF ALL THE MASONS OF THE UNITED STATES; CHARLES E. ROSENBAUM OF LITTLE ROCK, ARK. LIEUTENANT GRAND COMMANDER; CHARLES F. BUCK OF NEW ORLEANS, GRAND PRIOR, AND JOHN H. COWLES, SECRETARY GENERAL OF LOUISVILLE, KY., AND DEPUTIES OF OTHER OFFICERS OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL.
IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEDICATION THERE WILL BE TWO ORGAN RECITALS BY JOHN ALLEN RICHARDSON, ORGANIST OF THE HYDE PARK EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF CHICAGO ON THE CATHEDRAL ORGAN, A $15,000 INSTRUMENT, DECLARED TO BE THE MOST ELABORATE IN THE SOUTH. THE FIRST RECITAL WILL TAKE PLACE BEGINNING AT 2 O’CLOCK, WHILE THE AUDITORIUM IS ASSEMBLING FOR THE DEDICATORY EXERCISES, AND THE SECOND AT 8 O’CLOCK, JUST BEFORE THE DANCE IN THE CATHEDRAL BALLROOM, THE LARGEST DANCING FLOOR IN THE SOUTHWEST.
BEGINNING TUESDAY THE FOURTEENTH REUNION OF THE SCOTTISH RITE BODIES CENTERED IN SHREVEPORT WILL BE IN SESSION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK, CULMINATING IN THE CUSTOMARY CEREMONIAL SESSION OF EL KARUBAH TEMPLE OF THE MYSTIC SHRINE, WITH ITS TRADITIONAL BANQUET FOLLOWING THE DOUBTFUL PLEASURES OF THE NEOPHYTES ON THEIR PILGRIMAGE ACROSS THE BURNING SANDS.
