Flower: Bluebonnet (adopted in 1901, at the request of the Society of Colonial Dames
in Texas)

Flag: Known as the Lone Star Flag (adopted Jan. 25, 1839, as the Republic of Texas flag)

Gem: Blue Topaz ("Lone Star Cut")

Grass: Sideoats grama (adopted in 1971)

Take a day or weekend or even a few weekends and tour the small towns in the heart of Texas. The historical heart of Texas, the area of the first Angelo settlements of Texas.

Visit the ethnic Communities that were founded in the early 1800's by the immigrants from the Slavic Countries, Germany, Poland and The Wendish as they arrived in Texas.

Bypass the fast food places at the freeway exits for a change and sample real homemade ethnic foods in the little country cafes. Take home Polish and German sausages, beer and baked goods from the local stores, markets and bakeries. Visit the local shops and antique stores for crafts and ethnic Items made by local craftsman.
