GREETINGS FROM THE EAST
I understand that Brother J.D. Miller is not doing well. Please call
and visit him, if possible & keep him and his family in your
prayers. Our September meeting was rather long, like this message is
going to be, but we accomplished a lot. We opened on the 1st degree and
WBro. Bill Rice examined Brother Ken Willis. The Lodge was closed in
short form and opened on the 2nd degree and WBro. Bill Rice examined
Brother Brandon Davis. The Lodge was closed in short form and opened on
the 3rd degree for the meeting.
WBro. Gurdon Tarbox received a 50-year award from Grand Lodge and Bros.
Jack Burley & Joe Mayhew were given with 40-year awards and
Lifetime Memberships from our lodge.
The tree work at the Lodge was completed by Bro. Dave Chase's tree
service company. One tree had to be removed and sixteen others trimmed
up. Dave had the lowest bid and did a good job.
Bro. Jim Burke reported that the 2008 Golf Tournament will again be at
Traditions on June 28th. So plan now on getting with potential sponsors
for next year so they can plan us in their budget.
The Road Warriors met on Sep 8th and cleaned up our section of the
highway while others stayed and cleaned up the lodge. I want to say a
special THANKS to all who took the time to assist us.
New carpet was installed downstairs and on the steps. I talked to Bro.
Alex Lutz and his dad is ordering the other carpet to finish the job
upstairs and around the Altar.
We had a degree on Sep. 15th, which I missed because of a medical
appointment in Charleston. Bro. Jeff Pelasara put on the FC degree for
Bro. Ken Willis and did an outstanding job. WBro. Ellison Messick, of
Hampton Lodge #204 in Florence, traveled down to do the Lecture and our
brothers were equally impressed with his work.
The Outdoor Degree, sponsored by Pawleys Island Lodge #409, was put on
at Atalaya on Sept 22th. It took many of our Brothers to move the
equipment from our lodge there and to put on the degree. Thanks
Brethren, you did a great job!! Brandon Davis was one of the 4 Raised.
The meal was catered by Nance's Cedar Hill Landing Restaurant and was
the best one that I ever remember having at a function of this type.
On September 27th, we had the largest attendance that I have seen in
the Lodge since we hosted the Inspirational Meeting several years ago.
I counted over 64 Brothers present. Bro. Steve Bosch sat in the East
and conferred the EA Degree on Brian Crislip and Jason Jackson from our
Lodge and David Hughes and Charles Wilkinson of Grand STrand Lodge
#392. WBro. Norm Neitzel (apron), WBro. Hugger Peteet(lecture &
charge), and Bro. Mike Johnson(working tools) all gave outstanding
presentations. As always, the Officers did an excellent degree.
Our Lodge is saddened by the loss of three of our Brothers in
September. Bro. Leon Faris passed away on Sep 11th and was buried in
Murrells Inlet. Bro. Jackson Young was laid to rest on Sep 27th in
Georgetown with 17 Brothers present. RWBro. Marshall Bryant and WBro.
Norm Neitzel handled the arrangements and the services and did an
outstanding job conferring the Masonic Rites on both Brothers. Bro.
Jerry Mounts also died, but his family did not request a Masonic
Funeral.
One final reminder, Elections for our 2008 Lodge Officers will be held
at our October 4th meeting. Anyone interested in serving please contact
me.
