LODGES OPEN THEIR DOORS 3/1/09
The Masonic Lodge can often be one of the prominent buildings in many Ohio communities. However in some cases, the public has rarely had the opportunity to step inside. That is about to change. On Saturday, March 21, every Masonic Lodge in the state of Ohio will open its doors for a public open house. “It’s time for the public to have a chance to see what’s behind those closed doors and to experience some of the genuine fellowship Masons share,” says Charles R. Murphy, Grand Master of Ohio Masons. “Also, it’s a great opportunity to introduce a prospective member to the fraternity.” Each local Lodge will set its own agenda and schedule for March 21st. The Grand Master has simply asked each to participate. Multiple Lodges meeting in one building will hold a joint open house. Lodges are also encouraged to work with the appendant organizations meeting in their buildings to give the public a glimpse of the whole Masonic family, including women’s and youth organizations. “Every Lodge has some house keeping issues that need to be attended to, and a few fresh coats of paint wouldn’t hurt here and there,” says Murphy. “However, I think the renewed relationship with the community will make all the work well worth it.” Brothers wishing to volunteer to help at the open house should contact their Lodge’s Secretary or Master as soon as possible. |
FARMERS LODGE OPEN HOUSE 3/1/09
Farmers Lodge is pleased to announce that it will be holding an Open House available to the public on Saturday, March 21st. The Open House will run from 5:00pm till 7:00pm, for those who have an interest to gain a general insight of Freemasonry first-hand, or for those who may just be curious as to what a Lodge Room even looks like from the inside. I’m sure you have driven by our Lodge, or any Lodge for that matter at some point in your life, and have pondered to yourself… I wonder what goes on inside those buildings, or what it could it even look like on the inside, since usually a Masonic Lodge keeps it’s proceedings confidential by covering any windows, or in our case, may not even have windows, which is to keep our meetings private (notice private - not “secret”!) to keep “Cowans and Eavesdroppers” at bay. This is a perfect opportunity to inform the public of our Fraternity, and to answer any questions you may have regarding Freemasonry. As mentioned above, regarding privacy and not secrecy, Freemasonry is a “private” Fraternity with so called “secrets”, and is not a “Secret Society” contrary as to what you may have heard or read. Hence, the Grand Master’s edict for the Public Open House, to expel some of the myths which may have been generated over the years. Our Open House will be an informal event, and any of the officers will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and you can finally have answered that question I’m sure most of you have had… “What is Freemasonry?” As I’m sure you will find if you attend, there is no simple answer to that question, rather it has many “explanations”. Freemasonry may mean something different to each individual, and you will receive many variations to that answer. Freemasonry is something that if experienced, one can bring away with them something special in their lives, that may differ from one person to the next. There is much information presented to a candidate when he receives each of the Three Degrees in Masonry, and it is up to him, what he will take away from it. It is up to us to present it in a manner which he can understand, and to fully educate him on what he has just experienced. It is our hope to take a “Good man and make him Better”. We hope to see you that evening, and answer any questions you may have. Remember that this is an Open House event, so please feel free to bring your family. Light refreshments will be served throughout the event, and there will also be a speaker presentation beginning at 5:30pm and again at 6:30pm regarding a bit of history of Freemasonry as well as a bit of history on Farmers Lodge.
