President / Master's Message

Wow!  It’s really going to happen!  Far North Lodge U.D. will be Instituted on January 8th, 2003.  That evening we anticipate proving up one of our local Brethren and receiving a Petition as well.  On January 9th, 2003 we will perform a First Degree with the assistance of our visiting Brethren on possibly two candidates. Grand Lodge will ensure that Dispensations address any potential irregularities.

Brethren, the north is growing Masonically thanks to the support of many.  We thankfully acknowledge furniture from British Columbia, ongoing support from Yellowknife Lodge #162, our own Lodge Brethren from coast to coast and south of the 49th Parallel, the Grand Lodge of Alberta and the numerous ardent supporters and well-wishers of our Grand Jurisdiction and from canmas. That electronic venue brought us members from all over Canada, including former residents of Inuvik.

Our Lodge will be different. Regular meetings will be held every two months, (yes that is six a year).  Emergent meetings for Degrees or otherwise will be on alternative months.  We will have meetings in December, June and August, so if you are a travelling Brother, you may indeed be able to visit us.  Like our location, there will be “Light” here - if only a glimmer - in December.  It is not the changing of the fundamental cornerstones that needs to be challenged, as much as how we can viably address the needs of our time and situation with creativity and zeal. That, my Brethren, is exemplified in the creation of this Lodge.

For all Brethren to whom this is a Holy Season, may you be Blessed with the fortitude of your Faith, and may you confidently share your hope for the future with everyone you meet.

 Howard R. Townsend, PDDGM
