What is a Mason?

Freemasonary is one of the world's oldest fraternal societies.

Freemasonary is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values.  Freemasonary is a charitable and educational society dedicated to these values as well as, mutual aid, charity, leadership, religious toleration, and political freedom.  Masonic Lodges are found around the world in every free county.  There are over 4,000,000 Masons throughout the world.  In the United states, there are over 13,000 Lodges.

Its members are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dreams, which follow ancient forms and use stonemason's customs and tools as allegorical guides.  The lessons Freemasonary teaches in its ceremonies acknowledge, without in anyway crossing the boundaries of religion, that everything depend on the providence of God.  It encourages good citizenship and political expression, but is not a political organization.  Its charitable activities are manifold, yet it is not a welfare of benefit organization.
