CURRENT CHAPTER NEWS

06 November 2012

Meeting Report:

Brisbane District Grand Chapter was welcomed to our March meeting for its annual Inspection of our work and progress, and the Office-Bearers acquitted themselves to the usual high standard for which this Chapter is renowned. A special thanks for the dedication and effort by all concerned.

A somewhat unique occurrence in the early part of the meeting was the investiture of District Grand Esther, who had been unavoidably absent from the District Grand Installation earlier in March. This is an infrequent happening in this District, and probably has not happened in this Chapter before, so it added interest to the night's proceedings.

Social:

A number of members made the short trip to the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and spent a most interesting morning with a conducted tour of the stained glass in the Abbey Church (some dating back over six centuries), followed by a thorough perusal of the displays in the museum proper.

Although this Museum is located in the Caboolture area, the scope and variety of its collections are not well known and appreciated appreciated by locals!

And it also conducts a Medieval Tournament annually, attracting thousands of visitors from near and far; next Tournament is on Saturday 23 June 2001.

[Some may be interested to know that there is a connection between this Museum and J S M Ward, an author not unknown in Masonic circles]

Worthy Matron's Project:

During her term (September 2000 to August 2001) the Worthy Matron, Sis Anne Vickers, has adopted for her particular charity project, the raising of funds towards the provision of a HART Walker for a cerebral palsy child.

This device is custom made for fitting to a child at a young age, and throughout the ensuing years, is adjusted and modified to adapt to the child's physical development. It assists to "pattern" the child's brain to the movements required to walk unassisted - a wonderful achievement for such a child.

A HART Walker costs in the vicinity of AUD$5000 to initially supply and fit, with ongoing costs over succeeding years totalling another AUD$5000.

While a Chapter our size will be most unlikely to raise this sum during the year, we will work on the basis that every little bit helps! No doubt the managers of the HART Walker scheme in Australia will make good use of whatever we are able to donate.
