Britannia Lodge Meeting                        Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Worshipful Master Greg Henkelman opened Lodge at 2005.  Officers as per register except for WBro Len Clark acting as Tyler, Bro George Streeter as Chaplain, with JS and SS chairs empty.

The minutes of the last regular meeting February 6, 2008 were circulated in the mail out and they were adopted as such.

Communications and Actions Thereon:

1. The Secretary read out the Grand Lodge announcements and other communications, including information on Kenilworth’s upcoming 100th celebration and the Ponoka Citizens on Patrol (CoP) organization.  Al Shamal Shriners put forth an offer to present to Lodges and asked about participation in Soccer program (Action: WBro Blake Ross).
2. Accounts and actions thereon: WBro John Jardine reported that all regular Lodge bills and Grand Lodge dues have been paid and that signing authorities have been properly transferred.  WBro Blake Ross is working on the annual audit. WBro John Jardine made a request for a new member to serve on the financial committee. He is looking for people willing to commit themselves to this task. Attendance at meetings is necessary to ensure a full understanding of Lodge activities and issues.

Reports by Committees:
• Reception of petitions. One petition for initiation was received from Mr. Larry McDougall, age 37, Professional Driver, sponsored by Wor Bro John Jardine and Bro Ronald Allen.
• Investigation committee: None.
• Balloting: None
• Hall:  None, though the reception of a new filing cabinet excited WBro John Jardine... VWBro Dick Cameron reported that repairs on the Bachor Mausoleum will be starting soon.
• Comely: None
• Degree Team: The second degree will be held March 11th at the Masonic Hall, Red Deer. Bro Guy McDowell will be attending this for his second degree. The date for third degree needs to be set with members of Red Deer #12.
• Education/Research: Worshipful Master Greg Henkelman announced that later in the evening WBro Bill Douglas will be presenting a talk on the tools of Operative Stone Masons on behalf of Kenilworth Lodge #29 as part of the Central District Education Challenge.
• Benevolence: No report.
•  History/library: VWBro Dick Cameron requested that people sign out books borrowed from the library to ensure all Brethren can benefit from them.
•  Sick and visiting:  No report.
• Visitation: WBro Greg Henkelman announced that the third degree held for Kitchener Lodge # 95 (in Britannia) was a success and it was very well done by all involved.  He also mentioned that he visited the Ye Olde Craft Lodge and had the opportunity to learn about a new “Emblems of Mortality” degree team in the Canadian Rite. This is a group in Edmonton consisting of young brethren. Mistakes in the work during ritual performance cost money.
• Sports: Rimbey will be holding a 18 hole golf tournament on Saturday June 21, 2008. The cost is $ 55, please register prior to June 17th 2008. WBro Len Clark stated that the curling bonspiel was poorly attended and extremely challenging due to the skill level of the players involved.
• Education/charity fund: None

Old Business arising from the minutes:

WBro Blake Ross gave a brief overview of Bosco Homes, a non profit society. RWBro Roy Barrett requested more information o their need for furniture ie. Is used furniture acceptable? WBro Henry Matejka and WBro Blake Ross will draft a letter requesting clarification.

Issue of life – honorary membership was briefly discussed. Life membership must be made through an application process and a certification from Grand Lodge will accompany the process. WBro John Jardine will order the certificate from Grand Lodge for recent Life Members.

Notice of Motion made by VWBro Dick Cameron: That Al Shantz be granted honorary membership for past services (as per Bylaws, Article IV, Section IV, subsection (2), page 13).

Lodge went form labour to refreshment at 2047. WBro Bill Douglas made his presentation on the tools of stone masonry. The presentation was well received and the lodge returned from refreshment to labour at 2138.

New Business:
• WBro Greg Henkelman gave an update on the fund raising project for his daughter’s friend, Lydia, who has cystic fibrosis. He thanked all those who supported this effort.  RWBro Roy Barrett stated that he had eggs for sale and all the proceeds would go for this effort. The proceeds from the supper provided by him and Bro Eric Ostergaard will also go to this effort
• Worshipful Master Greg Henkelman gave his thanks to WBro Bill Douglas for his unique and enjoyable presentation.
• Bro Allister MacKenzie spoke about Citizens on Patrol (CoP) in Ponoka, and invited all interested people to join this valuable community organization in volunteer capacities to ensure that Ponoka remains a safe and caring community.

Lodge was closed in peace and harmony at 2240. Bro Ainsley Shepherd invited all brethren to lunch in the banquet hall.
