HISTORY OF ROCKTON LODGE #74
Rockton Lodge No. 74 was organized on January 5, 1849 by a group of Masons working under a dispensation
granted them by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Wm. Levely of the State of Illinois. Having petitioned
the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge for a charter it was granted on October 2, 1849 by the Grand Master.
There are 13 names appearing as charter members of the Lodge. They are as follows:

| | A. H. Merrill | L. W. Osgood |
| Alfred I. Ames | Wm. Leffingwell |
| Jos. C. Prentiss | John Holland |

Rumsey Hatch was chosen as the first Worshipful Master and Served in that capacity for
the following five years. Back to Roscoe Lodge History Merger
The date of October 31, 1907 was a disasterous one for Rockton Lodge, as our lodge hall
and its contents were completely destroyed by fire. We were granted a duplicate charter on
November 12, 1907, By Grand Master Alexander Bell. This is the charter that is used by the lodge
today. According to the minutes of the lodge, in its early existance, Masonic trials occurred quite
frequently and a special meeting was held the night of the fire. The present building housing the
lodge hall must have been erected immediately after the fire, as the date on the corner stone is 1908.
We are unable to find the date of its dedication.
On November 5, 1949 Rockton Lodge #74 and Roscoe Lodge #75 having been chartered and dedicated on the same day celebrated the one hundredth Anniversary of their Charter at Hononegah High school in Rockton. On this date the lodge consisted of 185 members, and had been served by 46 worshipful masters, 22 of whom were still living.

HOW TO JOIN THE FREEMASONS
©David Warner, 2000
Freemasons have traditionally never recruted members, prefering to have a good impression of existing Masons prompt new canidates to come to
them with a request to join, and a request is about all that is necessary. If a man believes in God
or a Supreme Being and is "of good report" all that he need do is find someone he knows
who is a member and ask him for a petition, then fill it out and hand it in with the required fee
and before he knows it he is a member of the oldest and most far-flung fraturnity in the world.
How do I find someone who is a Freemason? Look for this symbol on his car, or on a ring on his
finger.
Or any of the following symbols, they are emblems of Dependant bodies, in other words one must first
be a Mason or closely related to one in order to join these.
